“Sod the wine, I want to suck on the writing. This man White is an instinctive writer, bloody rare to find one who actually pulls it off, as in still gets a meaning across with concision. Sharp arbitrage of speed and risk, closest thing I can think of to Cicero’s ‘motus continuum animi.’

Probably takes a drink or two to connect like that: he literally paints his senses on the page.”

MAYNARD SENDS JONI MAJOR MOJO

As the silken-haired, silver-voiced mother of the best of my generation, Joni Mitchell, lies in intensive care in a California hospital, Caduceus winemaker Maynard James Keenan flicked me this photo of him sending Joan his major mojo. Look closely and  you'll see two copies of Ladies Of The Canyon. He wore the first one out. Point your best vibes at the lass who wrote A Case Of You. To hear her at what David Crosby calls the "peak of her powers" check the Shadows and Light show with a truly hot band and Jaco Pastorius  weaving his bass lines through her. Here she was with Leonard. Down on the boardwalk. Top shoes!
