“Sod the wine, I want to suck on the writing. This man White is an instinctive writer, bloody rare to find one who actually pulls it off, as in still gets a meaning across with concision. Sharp arbitrage of speed and risk, closest thing I can think of to Cicero’s ‘motus continuum animi.’

Probably takes a drink or two to connect like that: he literally paints his senses on the page.”

QUIET AFTERNOON AT SERAFINO

I felt like I'd walked onto a Bob Altman set upon emerging from a long lovely lunch at Serafino Wines in the heart of McLaren Vale on Friday. Dreamland. Maybe I should get into some wedding photography. Joke only. My most likely route to wedding photography would be to try and convince someone to marry me. We'd really met to drink and discuss Grenache and ended up making a brief study of the influence of good grappa when rubbed carefully into the forehead. It's a very beautiful place there on the water.
